This is my first painting in years, water color and ink paintings on paper not included. (I guess since some failed attempts in art school). 
It's an exersise to see if paint suits me and it's based on a black & white picture I accidentally found on the net. I like how this raw realistic photo reminds me of the dramatique power and composition of baroque paintings.
I was also inspired by seeing the painting 'French Troops' by Nevinson in the MSK in Ghent. I wasn't familiar with the futurist painter Nevinson yet but his style inspired me: I like his use of simplified geometric design to achieve strong sculptural forms. I had a great time discovering the possibilities of a discipline were I wasn't so familiar with.
